Friendster website has been experiencing downtime for the past few days. According to the Friendster management, the power outage has caused the server to experience downtime. Along with the incident, Friendster members are complaining about having unknown user profiles in their friend’s list. Friendster further said that it is not the only company that experienced the unscheduled downtime.

Friendster.com is now back online and everything is back to normal together with other 50 company websites. Friendster explained in their blog that despite of the incident, the original data for a friend’s list is not lost and still remain intact.

Most of the Friendster members are from the Philippines. There are about 13.2 million unique users from the Philippines out of the 39 million unique visitors tracked last March 2008.

Friendster servers are located in Santa Clara, California, USA.

There is another one good reason to enjoy Friendster and this is the release of 180 new applications. Friendster has launched its 180 applications for its members. These new applications will enable members to use and on the website. This development is the result of Friendster’s Developer program. These 180 applications are called widgets. Friendster, being the leader social networking sites is one of the pioneers in deploying such applications.

Existing application from other social from other social networking sites can be used and integrated on Friendster. There is no need for developers to modify or recreate the application since Friendster support flash and HTML widgets or applications. Friendster supports other ads to be integrated in the widget.
