Social Networking Sites

Friendster, MySpace, Face book and other popular social networking sites are changing the landscape of Internet community. Social networking sites have become a trendy thing on the Internet. According to Internet experts, these sites are also vulnerable to the next “new thing” since users can easily flock from one site to another. According to Prof. David Bell, the long term success of these social networking sites will depend on how they can retain the interest of their members. Social networking sites have a fast turn around where members can easily come and go. A good example is Friendster where it made a big hit in the year 2003 and generates millions of members. However, it has been overtaken by MySpace which success is considered phenomenal. This is mainly due to many features added by MySpace that entice many Friendster members to switch to MySpace. Experts also believe that migration can be attributed to the better functionality of the website.
